Muzaffarabad: Terrorist Hamza      ( Hamza)   Burhan was killed today in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Hamza Burhan was a commander of the terrorist organization Al-Badr and was one of India’s most wanted terrorists. In November 2020, a grenade attack took place at a CRPF camp in Pulwama; according to intelligence reports, this attack was orchestrated by Hamza Burhan himself. He had been hiding in PoK and was residing in Muzaffarabad. Early this morning in Muzaffarabad, unidentified assailants shot and killed Hamza Burhan. According to local media in PoK, two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted Hamza Burhan in front of a school in Muzaffarabad and riddled him with bullets. Hamza attempted to save his life by stepping out of his vehicle and trying to flee, but his attackers gave him no opportunity to escape, leaving his body riddled with gunfire. He died on the spot.

 

Who Was Terrorist Hamza Burhan?

Hamza Burhan’s real name was Arjumand Gulzar Dar, and he hailed from the Ratnipora area of ​​Pulwama. Approximately seven years ago, he crossed the border into Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and joined Al-Badr—a terrorist organization nurtured by the ISI. He was entrusted with the responsibility of escalating terror activities in South Kashmir, recruiting new terrorists, and supplying weapons to ‘over-ground workers’ (OGWs). This terrorist was the mastermind behind the 2020 attack on the CRPF camp in Pulwama. Following this attack, the ISI appointed Hamza Burhan as the Operational Commander of Al-Badr. Subsequently, Hamza Burhan’s name surfaced in connection with numerous terrorist attacks; however, today, unidentified individuals sent him on his way to hell.

**Hamza Had Fled to Pakistan Seven Years Ago**

Arjamand Gulzar was originally a resident of the Ratnipora area in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is reported that he traveled to Pakistan approximately seven years ago using valid travel documents, where he subsequently joined the terrorist organization Al-Badr. He later rose to become the organization’s Operational Commander, operating from Pakistan to manage a network responsible for the recruitment of terrorists, funding, and the supply of weapons within Kashmir.

Indian security agencies had long listed him as one of their “Most Wanted” fugitives. In 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India officially designated him as a terrorist. According to the Ministry, he played an active role in spreading terror across Pulwama and South Kashmir, recruiting youths into terrorist organizations, and mobilizing financial support for terrorist activities.

**The Pulwama Connection to the Terror Network**

Pulwama has long served as a sensitive epicenter for terrorist activities within the Kashmir Valley. Several prominent terrorist figures have emerged from this region—including Burhan Wani, who utilized social media to radicalize and influence the youth. Arjamand Gulzar is also believed to have been a part of this very “digital radicalization” model, wherein social media platforms and local networks were leveraged to incite young people to take up arms.

Over the past few years, more than a dozen commanders belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed have met a similar fate. Some were shot dead inside mosques, while others were killed within madrasas. Some were found dead in prisons, while others were killed on the streets; yet, to this day, no one knows who was responsible for their deaths. As recently as January of this year, Lashkar commander Abdul Ghaffar was shot dead by unidentified assailants. Abdul Ghaffar was a close associate of Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed. Similarly, in May of last year, Lashkar terrorist Saifullah Khalid was killed in Sindh; he was a perpetrator behind the attacks on the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and the CRPF camp in Rampur.

**How ​​many lives have unknown assailants claimed so far?**

In March 2025, unknown assailants shot dead ISI agent Mufti Shah Mir in Balochistan. It was Mufti Shah Mir who had orchestrated the abduction of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav from Iran.

In March 2024, Major Danial—a Pakistani Army officer who aided terrorists—was gunned down by unknown assailants in Peshawar. Major Danial had conspired to carry out the attack on an army convoy in Baramulla in 2016.

In December 2023, unknown assailants shot dead Adnan Ahmed—a terrorist close to Hafiz Saeed—in Karachi. Adnan was accused of involvement in the attack on a CRPF convoy in Pampore.

In November 2023, also in Karachi, Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Rahimullah was shot dead by unidentified individuals. Rahimullah was a close associate of Masood Azhar and used to raise funds for terrorist attacks in India.

In October 2023, masked assailants killed another Jaish commander, Shahid Latif. Shahid Latif was the mastermind behind the 2016 attack on the Pathankot Air Force Base.

Apart from these individuals, many other terrorists in Pakistan—such as Abu Qatal, Akram Ghazi, Khwaja Shahid, Maulana Zia-ur-Rahman, Bashir Ahmed, Zahoor Ibrahim, Dawood Malik, Ejaz Abid, and Lal Muhammad—have been eliminated in a similar manner.
