Bhopal. The country’s first CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat were tragically killed in a helicopter crash near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. There were 14 people in the helicopter at the time of the accident. Madhulika Rawat was the President of Defense Wives Welfare Association. Along with this, she used to work for the welfare of wives, children and dependents of army soldiers. Madhulika, wife of General Vipin Rawat, was the daughter of the princely state of Sohagpur in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Kunwar Mrigendra Singh. On getting information about the incident, his family left for Delhi.
CDS Vipin Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat belonged to Shahdol. His early education took place in Shahdol itself. After this he studied at Scindia Girls School, Gwalior and then graduated from Delhi University. She was married to Vipin Rawat in 1986 when Vipin Rawat was the captain. They have 2 daughters, Kritika is the elder daughter while Tarani Rawat is the younger daughter. Madhulika Rawat has two brothers. The elder brother’s name is Harshvardhan Singh while the younger brother’s name is Yashvardhan Singh. Madhulika Rawat was a part of many welfare programs and campaigns of the army. He had also helped a lot to the wives and children of the brave soldiers.
Vipin Rawat’s in-laws house is in Sohagpur Garhi of Shahdol. His father-in-law Mrigendra Singh used to be a local territorial officer of Sohagpur area and was a Congress MLA for two terms from Kotma assembly. Vipin Rawat was married in 1987. CDS Rawat’s father-in-law has passed away. Vipin Rawat came to Shahdol for the last time in 2011-12. Bipin Rawat’s father Laxman Singh Rawat has also served in the Indian Army. He also held the responsibility of lieutenant-general. His mother was the daughter of Kishan Singh Parmar, an MLA from Uttarkashi.
CDS Bipin Singh Rawat was counted among the most trusted military officers of Prime Minister Modi. Bipin Rawat was made the Chief of Army Staff superseeding the senior. The day he retired from the army chief, he was made CDS the next day. Rawat played an important role in ending the insurgency in the Northeast. He had conducted a cross border operation in Myanmar in the year 2015, in which the Indian Army successfully responded to the militants of NSCN-K.
