National: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court of India seeking a court-monitored re-test for NEET-UG 2026 after the examination was cancelled over alleged paper leak allegations. The plea also calls for major reforms in the conduct of competitive examinations across the country.
The petition was filed by the Federation of All India Medical Association following the Centre’s decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 exam. The matter is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has been tasked with identifying those involved in the alleged leak.
The petition has raised concerns over the functioning of the National Testing Agency and requested the court to replace the agency with a technologically advanced and independent body capable of conducting secure examinations. It also suggested preparing centre-wise result analysis to detect unusual patterns in future exams.
Several reforms have been proposed in the plea, including digital locking of question papers, improved security systems and eventually shifting NEET to a computer-based examination format to reduce risks linked to physical paper handling and transportation.
The petition further requested the formation of a high-powered committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge to supervise every stage of the proposed re-test for more than two million students who appeared in the examination on May 3.
