Power Bank Fire Sparks Panic on Plane at Chandigarh Airport, 5 Injured

National:Panic broke out at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport when a power bank caught fire inside an IndiGo flight shortly after landing on Tuesday afternoon. The incident led to smoke filling the cabin and triggered an emergency evacuation of passengers.

According to reports, the flight (6E-108) had arrived from Ahmedabad and landed safely around 3:29 PM. While taxiing on the runway, a passenger seated at 39C alerted the crew after noticing fire in his power bank. The crew acted swiftly and used a fire extinguisher to control the flames, but smoke had already spread inside the aircraft.

The situation escalated as passengers were evacuated through emergency exits using inflatable slides. During the evacuation, chaos-like conditions led to injuries. A woman passenger suffered a serious ankle injury after slipping on the slide and later underwent surgery. In total, five people, including two children, were reported injured.

Emergency response teams, including an Air Force fire vehicle, reached the spot within minutes. By then, the fire had already been brought under control.

The injured passengers were taken to a private hospital in Zirakpur for treatment. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, while an official statement from airport authorities is awaited.
