Washington: US President Donald Trump has cancelled the visit of the American delegation scheduled to hold ( Hold ) the second round of peace talks with Iran in Islamabad. This delegation was set to travel to Pakistan under the leadership of Steve Witkoff, the Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, and Jared Kushner—Trump’s senior advisor and son-in-law. Trump cancelled the trip, describing the long-distance journey as “unnecessary and a waste of time.”
‘They Can Call Us Whenever They Want, But…’
Trump stated, “I told my people a little while ago—they were getting ready to go—and I said, ‘No, you are not going to fly 18 hours to go over there. We hold all the cards. They can call us whenever they want, but you are not going to fly 18 hours just to sit there and engage in useless talk.'” It is noteworthy that this development occurred just as the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, departed from Islamabad on Saturday evening. They had spent the entire day holding meetings with Pakistan’s top leadership. Araqchi is now set to travel to Oman and Russia as part of his next tour.

Trump later confirmed the cancellation of the visit on “Truth Social,” stating that the Iranian leadership is “badly confused” and does not even know who is in charge. According to reports, the Iranian delegation submitted an official list of demands regarding the US and Israel to Pakistan. Their subsequent departure from Islamabad is being interpreted as a sign that the possibility of a second round of direct talks has, for the time being, evaporated. Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the US have suffered a major setback due to this turn of events. Prior to this, the first round of talks held in Islamabad had also ended inconclusively.
