Washington/New Delhi: A clarification has now emerged regarding the controversy sparked after US President Donald Trump reposted a controversial video on social media. The US Embassy in New Delhi has stated that Trump considers India a “great country” and that its leadership is in the hands of his “good friend.” The controversy originally began when Trump reposted a video in which radio host Michael Savage described India, China, and certain other nations as “hellholes.” This statement drew outrage in India, prompting a spokesperson for the US      ( US)    Embassy to issue a clarification in response.

India Reacts Strongly to the Remarks
A US Embassy spokesperson stated, “The President has said that ‘India is a great country, and I have a very good friend at the top there.'” However, the spokesperson did not specify when or where Trump made this statement. India has reacted strongly to this entire episode. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have taken note of these comments, as well as the clarification issued by the US Embassy.” He further added, “These comments are clearly factually incorrect, inappropriate, and objectionable. They do not in any way reflect the reality of India-US relations, which have long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.”

What Exactly is the ‘Hellhole’ Controversy?
In the controversial video, Michael Savage was criticizing America’s current immigration laws. He alleged that some individuals exploit the law by arriving in the US in the final stages of pregnancy, ensuring that their children automatically acquire citizenship by birth. In the video, Savage stated that in this way, “a child born here immediately becomes a citizen,” and subsequently, other family members come to the U.S. from “China, India, or any other hellhole country in the world.”
