Washington: On February 28, 2026, the United States—in conjunction with Israel—launched an attack on Iran; this conflict has now spread across all nations in the Gulf region. While Israel and the U.S. have wreaked havoc within Iran, Iran, in turn, is delivering a fierce counter-response to both the United States and Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump plunged the nation into war without the support of Congress; however, lawmakers are now raising critical questions regarding when, how, and at what cost this war with Iran will ultimately conclude. Lawmakers note that three weeks have elapsed since the war began, and its consequences are now beginning to manifest clearly. The Pentagon Has Requested $200 Billion

The Pentagon has requested $200 billion from war funds to sustain ongoing military operations—a request to which the White House has not yet acceded. As a direct result of this offensive by the U.S. and Israel, attacks are being launched against American allies, oil prices are skyrocketing, and thousands of U.S. troops are being deployed across West Asia—all while no definitive resolution to this crisis appears to be in sight.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina remarked, “The real question is: what are we ultimately trying to achieve?” Late at night, Trump stated that he was considering “ending” military operations, while also outlining a new set of objectives and goals. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has indicated that the military campaign will conclude shortly. Johnson stated, “I believe the core mission has been largely accomplished.”
