Why does the US want Greenland?( Greenland?) 

Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a new threat to the world. He said that countries that do not support US control over Greenland    ( Greenland?)     will face heavy tariffs. He said that the US needs Greenland for its national security and will acquire it.

Greenland is part of Denmark
For several months, Trump has been emphasizing that the US should control Greenland. Greenland is the world’s largest island, part of the Kingdom of Denmark and an autonomous territory. This is the first time Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on countries that do not support the US position on Greenland. He had never before threatened tariffs to strengthen his position on this issue.

Europe against US control over Greenland
European leaders, along with Denmark, have stated that the US cannot control the world’s largest island. All of Europe stands with Greenland. Trump has raised this issue again, which could increase tensions between the US and Denmark and the European Union. Denmark had previously explicitly rejected Trump’s proposal to buy or take control of Greenland, stating that “Greenland is not for sale.” Trump’s statement comes after his desire to buy Greenland during his first term, which he publicly discussed in 2019. At that time, Denmark also called it “strange” and “inappropriate.”

Why does the US want Greenland?
US national security experts say that Greenland is strategically important because it houses the US Thule Air Base, which is crucial for surveillance and defense in the Arctic region. Due to accelerating climate change, new shipping routes and resources are opening up in the Arctic, further increasing Greenland’s geopolitical importance.

Therefore, Trump has now issued a new threat to impose higher tariffs on countries that do not support the US position on Greenland. This threat could impact global trade. Denmark and the European Union already disagree with Trump’s trade policies. This statement comes at the beginning of what would be Trump’s second term, where he is signaling a further strengthening of his “America First” policy.
