Islamabad: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, ( Asim Munir) has told the Afghan Taliban government to choose between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Pakistan. Munir claimed that most of the terrorist groups crossing the border include Afghan citizens. Addressing the National Ulema Conference recently held in Islamabad, Munir compared Pakistan to the state established by the Prophet in the Arabian Peninsula 1400 years ago. Official details of the speech, delivered on December 10, were limited, but selected clips were broadcast on local television on Sunday, causing a stir.
Munir also made a major statement on Jihad
Munir told the Afghan Taliban government to choose between Pakistan and the TTP. He claimed that 70 percent of the TTP groups infiltrating Pakistan from across the border are Afghan citizens. He asked, “Isn’t Afghanistan shedding the blood of our Pakistani children?” He said that the Afghan Taliban would have to choose between Pakistan and the TTP. Munir further stated that in an Islamic state, the order for Jihad can only be given by the state. He clarified, “The authority to issue a fatwa for Jihad rests only with those who have received permission and orders from the state. No one can issue a fatwa for Jihad without the order and permission of the state.”
‘Pakistan received spiritual help’
Munir’s speech was replete with Islamic references, and he cited several verses from the Quran. He said that there are 57 Islamic countries in the world, and among them, “Allah has given us the honor of protecting the Haramain Sharifain (Mecca and Medina).” Referring to the conflict with India in May, Munir claimed that Pakistan received “spiritual help.” It is worth noting that India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This was in response to the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. India inflicted significant damage on Pakistan during ‘Operation Sindoor’.
