Hadi, the Rebel Against Hasina, Laid to Rest ( Against)

Dhaka: After the burial of Osman Hadi, a leader of the fierce movement against     ( Against)  former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in July 2024, his supporters have issued a major threat to the Yunus government. Hadi’s supporters have given the interim government a 24-hour ultimatum. Hadi was buried in Dhaka on Saturday, with millions of supporters in attendance. Following the burial, violence erupted again in Bangladesh. During the funeral, supporters warned the Yunus government that if all of Hadi’s killers are not arrested within 24 hours, a massive movement will be launched.

In Bangladesh, student leader and spokesperson for the Inqilab Manch, Sharif Osman Hadi, was shot on December 12. He died on December 18 while receiving treatment in Singapore. This sparked renewed violence in Bangladesh. Following Hadi’s death, political tensions in Bangladesh have reached their peak. On Saturday, Hadi was laid to rest at the Dhaka University campus, where millions of people gathered. Interim government chief advisor Muhammad Yunus also attended the funeral and paid an emotional tribute to Hadi. However, during the funeral, leaders of the Inqilab Manch issued a strict 24-hour ultimatum to the Yunus government. Abdul Al Jaber, a close associate of Hadi and a member of the Inqilab Manch, announced from the stage that the government must publicly clarify within the next 24 hours who is responsible for Hadi’s murder, what investigation has been conducted so far, and what steps have been taken for arrests. Nationwide Protests Threatened
Jaber said, “If the government doesn’t do this, we will launch a massive movement.” Supporters warned that if the killers are not brought to justice, there will be protests and road blockades across the country. Hadi’s funeral prayer was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament building. His elder brother, Abu Bakr Siddiqui, led the prayer. He was later buried next to the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus. At the funeral, Yunus praised Hadi, saying, “Dear Usman Hadi, we have not come to say goodbye to you. You live in our hearts. As long as Bangladesh exists, you will be a part of it.” Yunus described Hadi as a symbol of humility and dignity and said that his teachings would elevate the political culture. He also announced that the government would take responsibility for Hadi’s wife and only child.

Hadi’s Identity Forged in Fierce Movement Against Sheikh Hasina
The 32-year-old Hadi was known as a leader of the student movement against the then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government last July. He was shot by masked assailants during an election campaign in Dhaka on December 12. Following the news of Hadi’s death in Singapore, violence erupted across the country, with attacks on media houses and targeting of minorities. Some reports claim that the attackers escaped, leading to anti-India slogans being chanted.

Former minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury called Hadi a radical and alleged that the Yunus government wanted to postpone the elections by inciting violence. Yunus condemned the violence and promised to bring the killers to justice. The government declared a period of national mourning. Experts believe that if this ultimatum is not met, it could create new instability in Bangladesh before the February 2026 elections. Following this ultimatum, the situation in Bangladesh remains tense, and security forces are on high alert.
