Delhi: Following the SIR meeting, the Election Commission issued strict instructions to the Trinamool Congress, asking them not to threaten or attempt to influence booth officials. ( booth officials) In the meeting, the Election Commission refuted point by point all the apprehensions and baseless allegations of the All India Trinamool Congress delegation. The Election Commission requested them to submit claims and objections only after December 9, when the draft list is shared with them. Until then, they should not interfere with the independent functioning of state government employees, BLOs, EROs, and DEOs deployed on deputation for election-related work.
Election Commission issues instructions
The Election Commission has written to the Director General of Police of West Bengal and the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, asking them to ensure that BLOs are not pressured or threatened by political party workers.
The Election Commission has directed all District Election Officers to ensure new polling stations are set up in slums, high-rise buildings, and gated residential colonies, as is being done across India based on the Election Commission’s directives.
Based on recent incidents involving security breaches at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the Election Commission has directed the office to be relocated to a location suitable for security.
The Election Commission has also directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to ensure complete security at the existing and new offices of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal.
A formal letter has been sent to the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal and the Kolkata Police Commissioner to ensure that BLOs are not pressured or intimidated by political activists.
Highlighting the progress in SIR Phase-2, the Commission stated that approximately 38 crore forms, or over 74 percent, have been digitized. It also said that 99.43 per cent (50.68 crore) voters in 12 states and union territories have received the counting forms and there are still seven days left to submit them.
