Coimbatore. Former DMK MLA Veerapandi A Raja died of a heart attack in Salem on his 59th birthday on Saturday when he was laying a wreath at the portrait of his late father and former minister Veerapandi A Arumugam. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Family sources said Raja fell unconscious while garlanding his father’s picture who was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Raja was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Veerapandi in 2006 and was then the secretary of the party’s election committee in Salem district. He joined the DMK in 1982 and has held various positions in the party since then.
According to DMK sources, Chief Minister and senior party leader MK Stalin and his cabinet colleagues paid tributes to the former MLA. Stalin consoled his family by meeting him.
