Moscow: US President Donald Trump has imposed additional tariff on India and accused it of buying oil from Russia and indirectly being a participant in the Ukraine war. India has given a befitting reply to Trump’s tariff threats and ignoring his threats, India continues to buy oil from Russia. Now there is such news for Trump that his anger can reach the seventh sky. Because Russian ( Russia) crude oil has become cheaper for Indian refineries.
Russia has further increased the discount on oil given to India and now this discount has been increased to 3-4 dollars per barrel. Let us tell you that last week this discount being given to India was 2.50 dollars, while in July it was one dollar per barrel. Now India will get Russian oil cheaper and these new rates will be applicable on the oil sent to India in September and October.
Trump had doubled the tariff
The Trump administration last week doubled the tariff on India to 50 per cent to punish it for buying Russian oil and fuelling the Ukraine war. At the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, India had become a major importer of Russian crude in 2022. Now, after repeated US tariff threats, India has positioned itself as even closer to Russia and China, making a brazen display of its ties.
Big message from Shanghai summit
At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in China too, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that Russia and India have a “special” relationship. Similarly, he also met Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the two countries resolved to be partners, not rivals.
America accused India
White House advisor Peter Navarro had sharply criticized India, saying, “Before Putin invaded Ukraine, India used to buy Russian oil in very small quantities. What happened now? Now, Russian refiners give discounts, India refines it, and then sells it to Europe, Africa and Asia at a premium rate. This fuels the Russian war machine.”
