Beijing: Before the official start of the SCO summit, a meeting was held between PM Modi and Chinese (China’s ) President Xi Jinping. This was the second meeting between the heads of the two countries within a year. In this meeting, both the countries agreed on many important issues. This is expected to increase trade between the two countries as well as strengthen diplomatic relations. At the same time, the issue of border dispute also seems to be resolved. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told after the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping on which issues the leaders of the two countries agreed.
Vikram Misri told that the goal of both the countries is focused on domestic development and in this matter they are not rivals but partners. A stable and cordial relationship between India and China can be beneficial for the 2.8 billion people living in both the countries. The common interests of the two countries are more important than their differences and the two leaders also agreed that differences should not be allowed to turn into disputes.
Agreement for peace on the border
After Prime Minister Modi’s bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the border dispute was also discussed. The two leaders noted the successful military disengagement last year and the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border areas since then. Emphasizing certain principles related to this issue, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for peace and tranquility in the border areas for the continued and smooth development of bilateral relations. There was consensus on the need to maintain peace on the borders using existing mechanisms and avoid disruption of overall relations in future. The two countries also expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the border dispute, keeping in mind the political perspective of their overall bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the people of both countries.
India agrees to Jinping’s four suggestions
President Xi made four suggestions to further improve bilateral relations, namely strengthen strategic communication and deepen mutual trust, expand exchanges and cooperation, achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, take into account each other’s concerns, and finally strengthen multilateral cooperation to safeguard common interests. Prime Minister Modi responded positively to all these suggestions.”
Got China’s support on terrorism
There is no change in India’s position on Taiwan. Prime Minister Modi raised the issue of cross-border terrorism. He underlined the fact that this is a curse that has affected both China and India, and India is still grappling with this problem, and he sought China’s support on this particular issue. China has extended its support in various ways to resolve this issue. In terms of economic and trade relations, the role of the Indian and Chinese economies in stabilizing world trade was recognized. Both leaders once again emphasized the need to move forward in the political and strategic direction to reduce their bilateral trade deficit, facilitate bilateral trade and investment relations in both directions and increase policy transparency and predictability.
Both countries will increase bilateral trade
The two leaders also shared their views on increasing and balancing bilateral trade, strengthening people-to-people ties, cooperation on cross-border rivers and jointly fighting terrorism. During this, all these were discussed on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interests and mutual sensitivity. The two leaders agreed to make further progress on the issues. PM Modi invited President Xi to the BRICS Summit to be hosted by India in 2026. President Xi thanked the Prime Minister for the invitation and offered China’s full support to India’s BRICS chairmanship.
