Delhi: There is a race to acquire 5th generation fighter aircraft all over the world. There are only a few countries that have these aircraft. India is also making its own indigenous 5th generation fighter aircraft. Meanwhile, India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has put forward a big update on the engine   (engine )  of the fifth generation fighter aircraft. Rajnath Singh has revealed that with which country and which company the engine of India’s fifth generation fighter aircraft will be manufactured. Let us know what he has revealed.

India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said- “Today we have also taken a step forward towards making 5th generation fighter aircraft. We have also moved towards making aircraft engines in India itself. We are going to start engine manufacturing work in India with French company Safran.”

Defense export increased 35 times since 2014

Today India’s defense export has increased almost 35 times compared to 2014. In the year 2013-14, the defense export from India was only 686 crores, which has increased to 23,622 crores in 2024-25. Earlier we were completely dependent on foreign countries for our defense needs, but today India is moving rapidly towards self-reliance in the matter of defense. In the last eleven years, the country’s defense budget, which was ₹2,53,346 crores in 2013-14, has increased almost three times i.e. it has reached ₹6,21,940.85 crores in 2024-25. After Operation Sindoor, this defense budget is going to increase even more.

Tejas aircraft were also discussed

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said- “You will be happy to know that just a few days ago we have given a new order to HAL to make 97 Tejas fighter planes at a cost of about Rs 66,000 crore. Earlier also HAL was given an order to make 83 aircraft at a cost of Rs 48,000 crore. The quality of equipment of foreign companies which impresses us, that quality was not made in a day. It also took a long time and they got equal support from their country. Take the example of our HAL, it also did not manufacture ‘Tejas’ on the first day, but our support and the growing trust of our army gave HAL the energy to move forward towards the manufacture of ‘Tejas’. Our Tejas aircraft is going to be a great example of India’s indigenous defence capabilities. It is not that we are not facing problems in this work, but we have decided that we will find a solution to every problem and will definitely create the full capability of making fighter aircraft in India.”

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said – “We are providing a suitable development environment to the private sector. Accordingly, we have opened up opportunities to build mega defense programs including fighter aircraft, helicopters, tanks and submarines through the strategic partnership model, which will help our private companies become global giants in the coming years. We are well aware that it takes time to establish defense research and development in the private sector. To promote this process, we provide opportunities for free, ‘Transfer of Technology’ through DRDO. This is a big step towards self-reliance in the defense technology sector. When we talk about self-reliance, we do not just talk about Indian companies. Today is an opportunity for all the world’s biggest defense companies to invest in India, to co-produce defense equipment here.”
