Dead bodies of corona patients in hospital freezer for 16 months

Bengaluru: The family of Muniraju, who has said goodbye to the world, is feeling cheated today. Muniraju, 67, died on 2 July 2020 at ESI Hospital in Bengaluru due to corona. That was the time of the first wave of Corona, when the bodies of the dead were not given to the relatives. The family had also given consent to the hospital and the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation that Muniraju should be cremated.

Almost similar story is also of 40 year old Durga. Durga also died on 2 July 2020 and was cremated the next day by the administration. But the truth of both these deaths is that the dead bodies of both remained lying in the refrigerator of the mortuary of ESI Hospital and kept decomposing. No one took any care of these dead bodies. Here both the families were sitting on the assumption that their family members had been cremated and they had performed the Shradh rituals according to their respective religious customs.

Both the bodies are lying in the mortuary of the hospital. This was revealed last Saturday, after which there was a stir in the entire administrative department of the hospital. There has been no clarification from the hospital about the circumstances in which the bodies were discovered, or how they came to the fore, nor is any hospital official ready to speak on this issue.

According to hospital sources, both these bodies were kept in the freezer of the old mortuary of the hospital and the hospital staff were waiting for the staff of Bengaluru Municipal Corporation. During this time the new mortuary of the hospital was started and after that all the dead bodies were kept in the new mortuary. Both these bodies remained lying in the old mortuary, and after about 16 months on Saturday, both these bodies were found.

After the matter came to light, now the police has registered a case regarding this incident and has started to find out whether this case is of negligence or there may be some other reason behind it. Meanwhile, on the request of the police, the post-mortem of both the bodies is also being done, but there is doubt that anything will be known from the bone structures left in the name of the body.
