New Delhi. Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India next month, the Defense Ministry has approved an important deal. This deal, costing Rs 5000 crore, can be signed during Putin’s visit. After this deal is approved, with the help of Russia, AK-203 assault rifle will be manufactured in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
India and Russia had agreed on this deal only a few years ago. However, now the biggest issue is the transfer of technology. The Indian Army currently needs 7.5 lakh assault rifles. In the manufacture of 7.5 lakh AK 203 assault rifles proposed in Amethi, equipment made in Russia will be installed in the initial 70 thousand rifles. All subsequent rifles will be manufactured in Amethi. These assault rifles will start getting to the army after 32 months from the start of production.
In the year 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indo-Russia Ordnance Factory where there was talk of starting the construction of AK-203 soon. The AK-203 is actually an updated version of the world’s most famous assault rifle, the AK-47.
The AK-203 rifle is the most modern and lethal rifle of this series. This rifle is smaller, lighter and more lethal to the enemy than the INSAS rifles. Along with this, its weight is also very less. The weight of the AK-203 rifle is 3.8 kg while its length is 705 mm.
The AK-203 is one of the most updated rifles ever. The AK-203, known for its accuracy, is a convertible rifle. It can be used semi automatic and automatic mode. AK-47 is the most basic model, followed by 74, 56, 100 series, 200 series in AK.
The AK-203 assault rifle has bullets of 7.62x39mm, which makes it more lethal. Along with this, its range is 800 meters. This means that with its help the enemy can be shot down from a long distance. This rifle can fire 600 bullets in a minute.
