New Delhi: Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal  (Rakesh Pal) has passed away due to a heart attack. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has condoled his death.

Rajnath Singh expressed condolences

Rajnath Singh posted on Instagram and said, ‘Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Director General of Indian Coast Guard Shri Rakesh Pal in Chennai today. He was a capable and committed officer under whose leadership the Indian Coast Guard was making great progress in strengthening India’s maritime security. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.’

Rajnath Singh and MK Stalin paid tribute

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin paid last tributes to Indian Coast Guard Chief Rakesh Pal. He died of a heart attack in Chennai today.

Took charge last year
Rakesh Pal took charge as the 25th Director General of the ICG on July 19 last year. He was scheduled to meet the Defence Minister at an ICG event but was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital later in the day after complaining of uneasiness, officials said.

He also held various prestigious staff positions such as Director (Infra and Works) and Principal Director (Administration) at the Coast Guard Headquarters. Rakesh Pal was known for his sea experience and had commanded all categories of ICG ships, such as Samarth, Vijay, Sucheta Kriplani, Ahalyabai and C-03. The officer also commanded two Coast Guard bases in forward areas in Gujarat – Okha and Vadinar.
