Raipur: Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday criticised opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks on Hindus, (Hindus) saying if Hindus were not tolerant, it would not have taken 500 years to build the Shri Ram Mandir. Addressing a meeting of the BJP state working committee, Khattar accused the Congress party of spreading lies out of fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “When no one paid heed to the Congress’ lies during the Lok Sabha elections, they started defaming Lord Ram and Hindus,” Khattar said. He said Hindus are among the most tolerant people globally, while Rahul Gandhi claims that Hindus are violent.
Accused Congress of misleading the public
The Union minister said, “If Hindus were not tolerant, it would not have taken five hundred years to build the temple of Lord Ram (in Ayodhya).” He said, “We have also handled the process of removal of Article 370 peacefully. The caste and communal riots that used to happen during the Congress rule have stopped during the BJP rule.” Khattar accused the Congress of misleading the public and misrepresenting the newly-elected NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government as a “minority government”. Congress has won 99 Lok Sabha seats. He said that the Congress failed to get the status of the opposition party in the Lok Sabha in the last two elections (2014 and 2019), but is considering winning 99 seats as its victory.
Congress is now calling Hindus violent
Khattar described the success of the NDA in the recent assembly elections in four states and the absence of Congress MPs in 13 states as evidence of the decline of the Congress. The Union minister also accused the Congress of not fulfilling several promises made in Chhattisgarh (before the 2018 assembly elections), including liquor ban and farm loan waiver, and spreading lies about the BJP on the Constitution and reservation. “When these lies did not work, the Congress is now calling Hindus violent,” the former Haryana chief minister said.
Politics of appeasement will not work now
Khattar said, “The opposition knows that their agenda of spreading caste and communal frenzy and politics of appeasement will not work as long as the BJP and Modi are in power.” He urged party leaders and workers to go door-to-door to tell people about the benefits of the BJP’s public welfare schemes in Chhattisgarh and contribute to the Prime Minister’s goal of a developed India by 2047. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, regional organisation general secretary Ajay Jamwal, BJP state unit president Kiran Dev and other senior party leaders were present in the meeting.
