New Delhi: Heavy rains occurred in many parts of the country including Gujarat and Rajasthan on Sunday, affecting normal life. The southwest monsoon is moving towards the northern states of the country. Many people have died due to rain-related incidents like lightning and drowning across the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh are among the states where heavy rains occurred on Sunday. Also, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains (heavy rain ) in many states for the next four-five days.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh till July 02, Uttarakhand till July 04, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and different places of Uttar Pradesh on July 01 and 02 till July 3.
Along with this, heavy rains are likely at isolated places in East Rajasthan on July 01, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on July 01 and 03 till May 4, while the Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rains may occur in Bihar till July 2.
The IMD said that due to cyclonic circulation over the north-east Arabian Sea adjoining the Saurashtra region, there is a spell of rain in Gujarat. Officials said that due to heavy rains, many areas of Surat, Bhuj, Vapi, Bharuch and Ahmedabad city were waterlogged and traffic was affected due to waterlogging in low-lying areas, making some roads and underpasses inaccessible. Palsana taluka of Surat district received 153 mm of rain in ten hours, which is the highest in the state.
According to the Meteorological Department, the spell of rain will continue in Gujarat for the next four days. The IMD said in a release that heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in South and Central Gujarat and Saurashtra region on Monday after Sunday.
Heavy rain forecast in Delhi
Amid the forecast of heavy rains in Delhi till Tuesday, the municipal bodies have intensified preparations to deal with the problem of waterlogging, under which steps have been taken to keep the regional units alert, including increasing the deployment of staff and equipment.
On the first day of the arrival of monsoon in the national capital, Friday morning, 228.10 mm of rain was recorded, which is the highest rainfall in the month of June since 1936. The rain caused waterlogging in many parts of the city and many people lost their lives.
Heavy to very heavy rain in Bharatpur division of Rajasthan
Many parts of Rajasthan received heavy rains on Sunday. Churu recorded the highest rainfall of 51.4 mm, while the temperature in the city was 40.2 degree Celsius. In the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains were recorded in some parts of Bharatpur division. During the last 24 hours, 12 cm of rain was recorded in Bari of Dholpur and 11 cm in Baseri. Whereas, 10 cm of rain was recorded in Nagar, 9 cm in Kumher and 8 cm in Deeg in Bharatpur district.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in some parts of eastern Rajasthan and light to moderate rains in some parts of western Rajasthan in the next four-five days. The maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 41.3 degrees in Sriganganagar.
The police officer said, “It seems that they are members of the same family and slipped and fell into a waterfall about two kilometers away from Bhushi dam and drowned in the reservoir below.”
Kishtwar-Paddar road blocked due to landslide
The Kishtwar-Paddar road was blocked due to landslides in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, while light to moderate rains occurred at different places in Jammu division, giving people some relief from the scorching heat.
Rain in Kishtwar district on Sunday afternoon caused a landslide on the road near Pathrnaki, due to which vehicular movement had to be stopped.
Most parts of Jammu province remained cloudy throughout the day and light to moderate rains were reported from different areas, especially the hilly districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur and Ramban. Summer capital Jammu also received light rain in the morning.
The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places in Jammu division late night or early morning till July 3. After this, intermittent light to moderate rain is expected at most places and heavy rain at some places from July 4 to 7.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of flash floods, landslides and stone falls. Many roads were submerged after heavy rains in Haldwani, Ramnagar, Dehradun, Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Moradabad, Patna and Hyderabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy rains have occurred at many places in Bihar on Sunday. Rainwater entered the hospital in Jehanabad, Bihar. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in Bihar till July 02.
Favourable conditions for the advancement of monsoon
The IMD on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rains in northwest and northeast India in the next four to five days. He also said that the southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
