Mumbai: Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, (Naresh Goyal )  accused in the alleged Rs 538 crore fraud in Canara Bank, folded his hands in a special court here on Saturday and said that he has ‘lost hope of life’ and it would be ‘better’ to live in this situation. According to court records, a teary-eyed 70-year-old Goyal said he misses his wife Anita, who is in the last stages of cancer. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Goyal on September 1 last year in connection with an alleged bank fraud. He is currently in judicial custody in Arthur Road Jail here. He had filed his bail application before Special Judge MG Deshpande.
He was produced in the court on Saturday and during the proceedings he requested for a personal hearing, which was accepted by the judge. According to the court’s ‘diary’, Goyal said with folded hands and trembling that ‘his health has deteriorated a lot.’ Goyal said that his wife is lying on the bed and his only daughter is also unwell. He said even jail staff have limitations in helping them. The judge said, “I listened to him carefully and observed him carefully when he was presenting his views. I found that his body was trembling. He needs support to stand.

Goyal explained in detail about his health condition, wife’s illness, visits to JJ Hospital etc. and various problems. The judge said, “I have considered everything he said. I assured the accused that he will not be left destitute and that every possible care and treatment will be given to his mental and physical health. The court directed his lawyers to take appropriate steps regarding his health.

In his bail application last month, Goyal had cited various ailments like heart, prostate, bone etc. and claimed that there were rational grounds to believe that ‘he is not guilty’. ED has filed a reply on his application. Now the next hearing of the case will be on January 16.
