New Delhi. Earthquake tremors were felt from Delhi-NCR to Kashmir. The earthquake (earthquake) occurred at around 9.34 pm. The epicenter of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan. Its intensity was measured at 5.8 on the Richter scale. Apart from Delhi NCR to Kashmir, earthquake tremors were felt in many cities of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Actually there are many plates inside the earth which are displaced from time to time. This theory is called plate tectonics in English and plate tectonics in Hindi. According to this theory, the upper layer of the earth is about 80 to 100 kilometers thick, which is called the lithosphere. In this part of the earth, there are plates broken into many pieces which keep floating.
Normally these plates move at a speed of 10-40 mm per year. However, the speed of some of them is also 160 mm per year. The Richter scale is used to measure the intensity of an earthquake. This is called the Richter Magnitude Test Scale. Earthquake waves are measured on the basis of Richter scale from 1 to 9.
Not one but many earthquake zones in the country
Earthquake risk varies from place to place in the Indian subcontinent. India has been divided into four parts Zone-2, Zone-3, Zone-4 and Zone-5 on the basis of earthquake area. Zone 2 is the least dangerous zone and Zone-5 is considered to be the most dangerous zone. All the states of North-East, Jammu-Kashmir, Uttarakhand and some parts of Himachal Pradesh come under Zone-5 only. From low altitude parts of Uttarakhand to most parts of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi come under Zone-4. Central India falls in Zone-3 with relatively less danger, while most parts of the South come in Zone-2 with limited danger.

The intensity of an earthquake is measured by the waves of energy emanating from its center (epicenter). This wave that spreads up to hundreds of kilometers causes vibrations. Even cracks fall in the earth. If the depth of the earth is shallow, then the energy coming out of it is very close to the surface, which causes terrible destruction. The earthquakes that occur in the depth of the earth do not cause much damage on the surface. Tsunami arises when an earthquake occurs in the sea.
