Government sources said the protesting wrestlers were told that the decision on the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh would be taken by the investigators and not by the government and instead the “priority” was to complete the probe.
However, to end their protest, the wrestlers were adamant on the condition that Brij Bhushan Singh be arrested first. However, he agreed to the option offered by the government and dropped the demand for arrest. The government has promised them that a charge sheet will be filed in this matter by June 15 and then the court will consider it.
‘Let the law take its course’
Earlier on last Saturday, when the wrestlers had a late night meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, regarding the arrest of the WFI chief, the Home Minister had clearly said that ‘let the law take its course in this matter’. During this, he also listened to other demands of the protesters. After this, the Sports Minister held another meeting with the wrestlers on Wednesday, in which the formula for the agreement was worked out.
A government source told News18, “The wrestlers were told to allow the charge sheet to be filed by June 15 and then the court would consider it and decide further steps. At the same time, the complainant can also put his case before the court.

Along with this, most of the demands of the outfit such as holding the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections by June 30 and not allowing Brij Bhushan Singh’s family members or close aides to be involved in the election process, and thus the protesters The wrestlers agreed to end their protest.
In fact, one of the concerns expressed by the wrestlers was that Brij Bhushan Singh, after serving three consecutive terms, could project another family member or close aide as the next president. The government also agreed to set up an internal complaints committee within the WFI, which would be headed by a woman, and ensure the safety of women wrestlers. Along with this, the government has also agreed to withdraw the cases registered against the wrestlers and other protesters.
The wrestlers have agreed to suspend their protest till June 15, awaiting the charge sheet against Brij Bhushan Singh. However, a lot will also depend on what the Delhi Police alleges against the BJP MP and whether the POCSO charges will remain in the charge sheet or not.
