But along with happiness among the countrymen, a question is arising in the mind that what will happen to the building of this old Parliament House now? Originally the old Parliament House is called the Council House and it has been considered the soul of India’s democracy. In March 2021, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had told in his address to the Rajya Sabha that this building would be repaired after the construction of the new Parliament House. It will be redone. India Today told in its report that the government is considering preserving it in view of its archaeological importance. This building will not be demolished but it will be preserved. And this building will be used for organizing programs related to Parliament.
According to the government, the old parliament will not be demolished, but will be preserved. It was also told in the 2022 report that after the construction of the Parliament House, the currently used Parliament House will be converted into a museum. At the same time, visitors will be allowed to sit in the chamber of the Lok Sabha.
Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri informed that the budget allocated for the new Parliament building was around Rs 862 crore, and the design consultant for the project is HCP Design, a Gujarat-based architecture firm led by Bimal Patel. At the same time, while talking about the need for a new Parliament House, the Union Minister said that this building was constructed as a Council House, it was never designed as a full-fledged Parliament.
