Kallakurichi: 13 people died due to drinking poisonous liquor in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, while 40 people  (40 fell ) have been admitted to the hospital. Some people died on the spot, while some died in the hospital.
13 people are reported to have died due to consumption of poisonous liquor in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. At the same time, about 40 people have fallen ill due to consumption of poisonous liquor, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Immediately after consuming the liquor on Wednesday afternoon, their health started deteriorating. Some people died on the spot, while some died in the hospital. In this connection, 49-year-old K Kannu Kutty, who sold poisonous liquor, has been arrested. Also, 200 liters of poisonous liquor has been seized.

District Magistrate transferred, Superintendent of Police suspended

Analysis of 200 liters of illegal liquor seized from the accused revealed that it contained deadly ‘methanol’. Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered a CB-CID inquiry to investigate the incident comprehensively. A government statement said that Kallakurichi District Magistrate Shravan Kumar Jathavath has been transferred in this case, while Superintendent of Police Samay Singh Meena has been suspended.
