Hormuz: US President Donald Trump (Trump ) has now threatened Oman. Trump stated that if Oman interferes between Iran and the US in the Strait of Hormuz or dares to cause any obstruction, US forces will launch a massive attack on the country. In reality, Iran and Oman are currently in talks regarding the movement of ships through Hormuz; the two nations have even reached an agreement on mapping out shipping routes for the Strait. Donald Trump is furious about this development. He wants the US to control Hormuz and prefers Iran to find a solution in collaboration with the US; however, the talks between Iran and Oman jeopardize Trump’s plan, prompting him to threaten Oman today.
Threat to Bomb Oman
When asked about the parallel talks between Iran and Oman regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, “If Oman gets in the way, we will subject them to massive bombing.” The US President further indicated that, despite Tehran’s public statements, the US naval blockade is exerting fresh economic pressure on the Iranian government. He remarked that while Iranians are “good poker players,” they are “being ruined.” He also stated that the upcoming US midterm elections in November have no bearing on his thinking.
US Possesses Vast Arsenal
Trump also discussed US weapon stockpiles in West Asia, noting, “What we have used so far is very minimal.” He mentioned that the US possesses a large number of mid-level weapons, whereas many highly advanced systems—including air defense systems crucial for the region—had been supplied to Ukraine by former President Joe Biden. Trump’s remarks come at a time when Tehran and Muscat are negotiating the establishment of a system to ensure safe commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Following weeks of technical discussions, the two nations had finalized a joint shipping route map for the maritime corridor.
**Ceasefire with Iran Ending**
It is worth noting that the US maintains a military base in Oman, which American forces have been utilizing during the conflict with Iran. Given this context, Trump’s threat against Oman is surprising. Furthermore, the 60-day limited ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire today; yet, there have been no substantive talks between the two nations regarding ending the conflict during this period. However, Trump claimed today that the US is engaged in back-channel communications with the IRGC. He stated that Iran has no option left but to surrender, adding that it would be best for Iranian forces to capitulate to the US.
