Islamabad: Amid tense relations with India, Pakistan has increased its defense budget (defense budget) by 20%. It is worth noting that after Operation Sindoor launched by India, Pakistan is furious. In such a situation, its increase in defense budget shows that it has come to know the power of India very well and now it feels that it needs to increase the defense budget to stand in front of India.
How much money did Pakistan allocate
Pakistan on Tuesday increased its defense budget by 20 percent and allocated 2,550 billion Pakistani rupees (US $ 9 billion) for the financial year 2025-26. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the federal budget of 17,573 billion Pakistani rupees for the financial year 2025-26 in the National Assembly. He also presented the budget document in the form of the Finance Bill in the National Assembly. In his speech, the minister said the government has decided to allocate PKR 2,550 billion for the country’s defence.
He did not give any further details about defence spending as traditionally the defence budget is not discussed by the parliament. Last year, the government had allocated PKR 2,122 billion for defence, marking a 14.98 per cent increase from the PKR 1,804 billion budgeted for the fiscal year 2023-24. “This budget is being presented at a historic time when the nation has shown unity and determination,” the Pak minister said, referring to the recent Pakistan-India conflict.
Tensions between India and Pakistan had increased after the Pahalgam terrorist attack
It is worth mentioning that tensions between India and Pakistan had increased after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 and on May 7, India carried out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Let us tell you that the four-day ground hostility between India and Pakistan ended on May 10 after talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both sides. The government has allocated Rs 8,207 billion to repay the debt, which is the biggest expenditure.
