Meera’s resignation is shocking before the company’s Annual Day Conference to be held next week. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has praised Meera Murati through a post on X.
Meera Murati wrote on her social media, “I have something to share with you. After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to leave OpenAl. I have had an extraordinary privileged six and a half years with the OpenAl team. While I will express my gratitude to many individuals in the days to come, I would like to thank Sam and Greg for their trust in me to lead the technical organization and for their support over the years.” AI is the beginning of a new era
Mira further wrote, “There is never an ideal time to step away from a place you cherish, yet this moment feels right. Our recent releases of speech-to-speech and OpenAl o1 mark the beginning of a new era of conversation and intelligence achievements made possible by your ingenuity and craftsmanship. We didn’t just build better models, we fundamentally changed how AI systems learn and reason through complex problems.

Reason for this decision
I am stepping back because I want the time and space to explore myself. For now, my primary focus is on doing everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining what we have built. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to build and work with this remarkable team. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of scientific understanding in our quest to improve human well-being. Even though I am no longer with you, I will still wish you all the best.
