Islamabad: Pakistan never stops its nefarious activities. Its leaders also keep exposing their character by making hollow statements. The latest case is that Pakistan’s former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday again issued a threat against India. Bilawal Bhutto said, ‘If India refuses to give Islamabad its fair share of water under the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), then Pakistan ( Pakistan) will move towards war.’
What did Amit Shah say that infuriated Pakistan
Actually, after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India had suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960. This move of India created a stir in Pakistan. In such a situation, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced last week that this historic agreement would never be restored. Pakistan was infuriated by this comment of Amit Shah. At the same time, this comment of Bilawal has come to the fore 2 days after the Pakistan Foreign Ministry criticized Shah’s attitude towards international agreements.
What else did Bilawal say while threatening?
Bilawal Bhutto, in a speech in the Parliament of Pakistan, rejected India’s decision to suspend the agreement and threatened to take Pakistan’s share of water. Referring to the six rivers of the Indus Basin, he said, ‘India has two options: either it shares the water equally, or we will bring water from all six rivers to us.’
Bilawal said that the Indus Water Treaty is still in practice, because the agreement cannot be kept suspended. He said, ‘The attack on Sindhu (Indus River) and India’s claim that the Indus Water Treaty has ended and is suspended. First of all, it is illegal because the Indus Water Treaty is not suspended, it is binding on Pakistan and India, but the very threat of stopping water is illegal according to the UN Charter.’
The former foreign minister also highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation, especially on counter-terrorism efforts. He said, ‘If India and Pakistan refuse to talk and there is no coordination on terrorism, then violence between the two countries will increase further.’
