Captain Shubman Gill’s dominance in England  (Shubman Gill’)

Leeds: Shubman Gill,    (Shubman Gill’)  the new captain of the Indian Test team, has started this responsibility with the bat in a very brilliant way. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, Shubman Gill has been made the new Test captain of Team India in this format. Under the captaincy of Gill, the Indian team has reached England to play a five-match Test series, in which the first match of the series is being played between the two teams at the Leeds ground. In this match, Team India got a chance to bat first, in which a historic century was seen from the bat of captain Shubman Gill in the last session of the day.

Gill became the fourth Indian captain in this matter with a century

While Shubman Gill is captaining Team India for the first time in his Test career, for the first time he also came out to bat at the number-4 position. Gill has so far performed both these responsibilities very well on the first day of the game, in which he did not appear under pressure even once during his batting. Gill has also become the fourth captain from India who has managed to score a century in the first innings while playing his first Test match as a captain. Before Gill, this feat was achieved by Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli.

Players who scored a century in the first innings of a Test while captaining the Indian team

Vijay Hazare – 164 runs not out (vs England, 1951, Delhi) Sunil Gavaskar – 116 runs (vs New Zealand, 1976, Auckland) Virat Kohli – 115 runs (vs Australia, 2014, Adelaide) Shubman Gill – 127* runs (vs England, 2025, Leeds)

Gill broke Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s record

Shubman Gill has broken the record of former Indian player Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi for being the youngest to score fifty plus runs as an Indian captain in Test cricket in England. While Gill has achieved this feat at the age of 25 years and 285 days, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, while captaining the Indian team in 1967, played an innings of fifty plus runs in England at the age of 26 years and 174 days.
