G7 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached Kananaskis to attend the G7 summit, was welcomed by Canadian PM Mark Carney. Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Modi agreed to appoint new High Commissioners with the aim of providing regular services to citizens and businesses in both countries. After meeting the Japanese Prime Minister at the G7 Summit, PM Modi tweeted: “Had useful discussions with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the G7 Summit in Canada. India and Japan are committed to further deepening bilateral relations in various fields.”
Wildfire Charter released from G7 platform
The Wildfire Charter reads, “We pledge to promote global cooperation to prevent, fight and recover from forest fires by taking integrated actions to reduce the incidence and negative impacts of forest fires and ensure our readiness to help each other and partners when needed. We will take steps to prevent and reduce the incidence of forest fires – by adopting a whole-of-society approach, implementing mitigation and adaptation actions, raising awareness about the various causes of forest fires and measures to prevent them.
India-Italy friendship will get stronger

‘Critical Minerals Action Plan’ at G7 Summit Launch
At the G7 summit, member countries launched the ‘Critical Minerals Action Plan’. Its aim is to create a transparent and standards-based global market for essential minerals (such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, etc.). These minerals are considered very important for electric vehicles, batteries and green energy technology. After its launch, the leaders of the G7 countries said in a joint statement that we will intensify cooperation to promote innovation in research and development, especially in areas such as processing, licensing, recycling, finding alternatives to minerals, redesigning products and circular economy. The G7 countries will also work with partner organizations to showcase new technologies and production processes.
Joint statement of G7 leaders on migrant smuggling
The G7 leaders issued a joint statement on combating migrant smuggling. It reads, “We, the leaders of the G7, are determined to eliminate international organized crime groups that profit from both migrant smuggling and human trafficking in order to prevent and combat the smuggling of migrants. Migrant smuggling is often linked to other serious criminal offences, including money laundering, corruption, and human and drug trafficking, which threaten the safety of our communities. This can expose trafficking victims to serious and life-threatening risks, including physical abuse, sexual and gender-based violence, extortion, labor exploitation and forced labor, and crime.”
