Tehran: While there are many restrictions on women’s clothing in Iran, women’s protests are seen against it from time to time in the country. On Saturday, November 2, a girl student ( girl student) was seen roaming around the campus in a university in Tehran without her clothes on. The video of the girl student went viral on social media and people gave tremendous reactions to it. Why did this girl student, who was doing research in the university, take off her clothes and why did she keep roaming around in undergarments, why did she do this? There is a huge debate on this. Some people say that she did this in protest against the rules of wearing hijab forcibly, while some people are saying that her mental condition is not right.
Why did the student take off her clothes?
A girl was arrested after she was seen in her underwear on the campus of the university’s Science and Research Department. People supporting this student believe that by taking off her clothes and walking around wearing only underwear, she has protested against the ‘forced imposition of hijab’ in the country. Some people have also described this step of the student as revolutionary. While taking off her clothes, this student had told other students, “I have come to save all of you.” After the incident, the university authorities took the student into custody and sent her to a mental health hospital.
Some media reports also said that the girl is missing after her arrest. People also alleged that the girl was mistreated by the morality police, in protest of which she took this step. Some people say that this act of the student will prove to be a historic step taken for the freedom struggle of Iranian women. This has happened in a country where women are killed even for showing their hair.
Allegations against the student – was under mental pressure
According to Iran’s state agency IRNA, Islamic Azad University’s Public Relations Director General Amir Mahjoub reacted to the incident on his X account on Sunday and claimed that the student had committed an immoral act on November 2. Mahjoub said that after this indecent act by a student in the science and research branch of the university, the campus security personnel handed her over to law enforcement officials. He said that the investigation has revealed that the student was under mental pressure.
Protests are constantly increasing in Iran
Let us tell you that in the last few years, the opposition to dress code and hijab by women has increased in Iran. After the revolution of 1979, it was made mandatory for women in Iran to wear hijab. These restrictions gave rise to many movements by activists and ordinary citizens in the country that challenge the mandatory wearing of hijab. Similarly, following the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman, in the custody of morality police in September 2022, massive protests broke out across the country against hijab bans which were suppressed by the government with all its might.
