LUCKNOW: The richest candidate, among the candidates who have tried their luck in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, has assets worth over Rs 148 crore, while two candidates have declared their nil assets. This information has been given by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization advocating for electoral reforms. In the ADR report, it has been said that while one of the three economically weakest candidates has declared zero assets, the second candidate has one thousand rupees and the third one has ten thousand rupees.
According to the ADR report, the average asset per candidate contesting in the first phase of Uttar Pradesh elections is Rs 3.72 crore. ADR has given this information on the basis of analysis of the affidavits of the candidates. The average assets of 28 SP candidates analyzed by ADR is Rs 13.23 crore, while the average assets of 57 BJP candidates is Rs 12.01 crore. At the same time, 29 RLD candidates have an average asset of Rs 8.32 crore, while 56 BSP candidates have an average asset of Rs 7.71 crore. The average assets of 58 candidates of Congress is 3.08 crores, while the average assets of 52 candidates of Aam Aadmi Party is Rs 1.23 crores.
Among the top three economically strong candidates, Amit Agarwal of BJP (Mathura Cantonment) has declared assets of more than Rs 148 crore, followed by SK Sharma of BSP (Mathura) with Rs 112 crore and Samajwadi Party candidate Rahul Yadav. (Secunderabad) has declared assets worth more than 100 crores. Let us inform that in 58 assembly constituencies of 11 districts of western Uttar Pradesh, voting is to be held on February 10 in the first phase, in which more than 600 candidates including independents are in the fray.
The report said that two candidates who tried their luck in the first phase have declared zero assets. These candidates are Kailash Kumar of Bahujan Mukti Party, who has filed nomination from Atrauli in Aligarh and KM Preeti of Rashtra Nirman Party, who will contest from Meerapur seat in Muzaffarnagar. The three candidates with the least amount of declared assets are Independent Shiv Charan Lal (Etmadpur), who has assets of just Rs 1,000 and Ambedkar Hasanuram (Kheragarh seat) with Rs 1,100, the report said. According to the ADR, Bharatiya Mazdoor Janata Party candidate Neil has declared assets worth Rs 10,000. Neil will contest from Agra North. The report said that of all the candidates, 261 (or 42 per cent) have given details of liabilities in their affidavits.
