Beijing. Chinese President Xi Jinping (Jinping) told former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger on Thursday that his country is ready to hold talks with the United States to mend its derailed ties. He urged the veteran US diplomat to help mend relations as he had done by establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries 50 years ago. Xi Jinping arrived at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing to meet visiting US officials.

Kissinger is currently on a visit to Beijing. He has come here after the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Finance Minister Janet Yellen earlier this month. Apart from him, Washington’s top climate envoy John Kerry has also traveled to China to improve relations. Former US President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden have also adopted tough policies against China, including imposing trade and technology sanctions as well as forming influential strategic groups such as the Quad and the Aucus.

These countries are included in the quad countries
The Quad countries include the US, India, Japan and Australia while the Aucus includes Australia, the US and the UK. Regarding these, China says that the purpose of these groups is to stop its rise. Because of this, the relations between the two countries have deteriorated considerably. Xi Jinping avoids meeting visiting US officials in China, but he arrives at Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Guest House to meet Kissinger and seek his help in improving Sino-US relations.

100-year-old Kissinger arrives in China on personal visit
Kissinger met Chinese leaders in this guest house during his first visit to Beijing in 1971 to establish diplomatic relations. Then the President of America was Richard Nixon. Xi Jinping said during his meeting with Kissinger that 52 years ago, at a turning point in Sino-US relations, Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Tse-tung, Premier Zhou Enlai, US President Nixon and Kissinger made the right choice of cooperation between China and the US, with remarkable strategic vision. Officials said that 100-year-old Kissinger has come to China on a personal visit.

The Chinese President said, “It not only benefited both countries, but also changed the world.” According to the news of the official news agency ‘Xinhua’, Xi Jinping said that in view of the future, China and the US have every reason to support each other’s success and achieve shared prosperity. He said that it will be important to follow the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and beneficial partnership
Talking about friendly relations between the countries
He said, “On this basis, China is ready to hold discussions with the US to promote friendly relations between the two countries and steady development of bilateral relations. It will be beneficial for both the sides as well as for the whole world. Xi Jinping expressed hope that Kissinger and other leaders in Washington would continue to play a constructive role in getting China-US relations back on track.

Before Xi Jinping’s meeting with Kissinger, China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and China’s Defense Minister General Li Shangfu also met the former US Secretary of State.
