New Delhi: DRI has arrested four foreign nationals and recovered 83 kg of gold, which is worth 42 crores. This gold was smuggled from Hong Kong and imported into India. The arrested accused are from China, Taiwan and South Korea.

According to sources, the DRI had received information that some people were smuggling gold into India through air cargo. This gold is being imported as a part of machines, which is then being sold by melting it in the shape of a cylinder or a bar.

After getting information about this, DRI started monitoring the goods coming as parts of machines at Delhi airport. In the investigation, an item was opened and the electroplating machine inside the transformer turned out to be of gold. The EI-laminates that were attached to the transformer were made of gold. Which were hidden by painting nickel. Out of 80 electroplating machines seized, 1 kg gold was recovered.
As soon as the suspicion of the DRI turned into confidence, after taking further action, 5.409 kg of gold was recovered after raiding the place of a jeweler in Delhi. After that, 4 foreign nationals were arrested after raiding the posh areas of Chhatarpur and Gurugram in Delhi on the behest of the accused. Out of which 2 were citizens of South Korea, one China and one Taiwan.

Out of the four arrested accused, 2 people have already gone to jail for smuggling gold. There they became friends and after that, a plan was made to smuggle gold further by adding the rest of the people with them.

In the investigation, it was found that these four used to smuggle gold from Hong Kong as parts of the machines. After this, using a very complicated process, the gold was converted into bars or cylinders and sold. They used to live in posh societies of Chhatarpur and Gurugram in Delhi so that no one doubts them. He worked so secretly that even the neighbors did not suspect him.
