70% work of India to Thailand highway completed

New Delhi (June 28, 2023 ) -: The work of the Asian Highway is being done on a war footing on the lines of the only Stilwell Road from India to China built during the Second World War. Entering from Manipur, this highway will go to Myanmar and then to Thailand. The biggest project of Modi government’s Act East Policy has now been completed up to 70 percent.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told News18 India that he had gone to see the status of the work and the latest situation is that till now 70 per cent work of this project has been completed. Gadkari said that the work on this project was going on fast, but due to deteriorating environment in Manipur, there are some problems, which will be resolved soon.

When is it expected to be completed?

This highway is expected to be completed by the year 2027, after which it will be easy to go to Thailand from India. People will be able to go to Thailand by car instead of flight. The India-Myanmar and Thailand highways are being built by the three countries together, the total length of which is about 1400 kilometers. The project was proposed by the then Vajpayee government, but it remained only on paper. Then in the year 2014, after the Modi government came to power, the work on this project started.

This highway will pass through these countries and cities

This highway connecting three countries starts from Kolkata and goes to Siliguri and then enters Assam from Srirampur border of Bengal via Coochbehar. After traveling through Assam to Dimapur and Nagaland, this route will enter abroad i.e. Myanmar from a place named Moreh near Imphal in Manipur. Passengers will enter Thailand via Bago and Yangon in Myanmar.

It is believed that after the completion of this highway, the economy of the North-East region of India will improve. Along with this, there will also be a deep injury to China’s economy. China’s trade has spread to Asian countries, but when India’s connectivity with these countries will increase, then the dependence of these countries on China will reduce and many countries will turn towards India.
