Agartala. When a 22-year-old youth, who had been missing for the last one month in Tripura, returned home, he found that the process of Shradh was being done for him. The incident is from Kalibazar area of ​​West Tripura district where there is a wave of happiness among the family members of the youth and anger towards the police. Akash Sarkar, a resident of Kalibazar of Mohanpur sub-division, was missing for the past one month. On June 3, a dead body was found floating in the lake near Melrmath under West Agartala Police Station. Preliminary investigation found that the deceased was a resident of Kalibazar who was missing since last one month.

After this, the police contacted the family of Akash Sarkar and informed about the receipt of the body. Mohanpur Sub Divisional Officer K. B. Majumdar said, “Akash’s father Pranav Sarkar reached GBP Hospital and after seeing his bag, pants and tabs, he identified his son’s body.” After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to Pranav Sarkar and his family members cremated him.

What did the police and the young man’s father say?
“Since this is a case of misidentification, we will investigate and do whatever is necessary,” the police officer said. The youth’s father says that the police pressured him to identify the body. The youth’s father said, “I repeatedly told the police that the dead body recovered from the lake is not what my missing son looks like. The police insisted that the body had swelled up due to drowning. The tablet and the pants found in the bag belonged to my son, but he is not so fit.”

Akash said that he was living near Batala bridge and had recently gone there to meet one of his sisters. He said, “Today he called and when I came back home I was surprised to see that my Shradh was taking place.”
