Due to heavy rains in Delhi, there was waterlogging at many places in Delhi, due to which the drivers had to face heavy traffic( traffic ) jam. Traders and people faced problems due to water-logging in many markets including Connaught Place in central Delhi. Due to waterlogging and rain, there were very few customers in the markets. Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung Observatory recorded 98.7 millimeters (mm) of rain till 2.30 pm. At the same time, 111.4 mm of rain was recorded at the Ridge Observatory. At the same time, due to heavy rains, waterlogging was not only seen on the roads, due to the breaking of drains in the streets of residential areas of Delhi, the roads seemed to have been flooded. Passengers stuck in traffic jam narrated their ordeal on social media. A commuter said that long queues of vehicles were seen on Vikas Marg from Laxmi Nagar to ITO. Massive traffic jam was witnessed in ITO area due to water-logging at Tilak Bridge underpass and Minto Bridge. Another passenger said that motorists had to face heavy traffic jam at Shakti Chowk between Dwarka Sector-4 and Sector-5.
Delhi Traffic Police took to Twitter to inform commuters about the traffic situation across the city. “Due to water-logging on Aurobindo Marg on the way from IIT to PTS Malviya Nagar and on its other side,” the police said. Traffic is affected. Please refrain from using this route. In a series of tweets, the traffic police said, “Traffic is affected due to waterlogging on Rohtak road from Tikri border towards Mundka.”
People also complained of traffic jam at Ghevra railway crossing, Chirag Delhi, Nehru Place flyover and near Greater Kailash Metro station, among other places. Following are the areas which received heavy rains in the last 9 hours in Delhi. The Ridge received 128 mm, Safdarjung 126.1 mm, Lodhi Road 118.2 mm, Delhi University 86 mm, and Pitampura received 67.5 mm of rain. Heavy rain was also recorded in ITO, Palam and Ayanagar. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has predicted good rains in Delhi for the next 2 days.
