Srinagar. Three army soldiers were killed in an encounter with terrorists ( terrorists ) on Friday in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. A police official said security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the higher reaches of Halan forest area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the security forces, who retaliated. The officer said that three security force personnel were injured in the firing and died during treatment.
Srinagar-based Army’s Chinar Corps said in a tweet that ‘Operation Halan Kulgam. Security forces launched the operation on August 4 after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the higher reaches of Halan in Kulgam. In the exchange of fire with the terrorists, three jawans were injured and later martyred. The search operation is going on. The army officer said that more forces have been sent to the encounter area and the search operation has been intensified.
Earlier, three associates of terrorists belonging to ‘The Resistance Front’, a branch of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba in Kashmir, were arrested on Friday. According to the police, those arrested were identified as Imran Ahmed Nazar of Baramulla, Waseem Ahmed Matta of Srinagar and Vakil Ahmed Bhat of Bijbehara. A police spokesperson said that all three were apprehended by the police team from a check post following specific intelligence. He said that three hand grenades, 10 rounds of pistol, 25 rounds of AK-47 rifle and other objectionable material have been seized from the arrested terrorists.
