Patna. The Aam Aadmi Party has now got the support of the Congress against the central government’s ordinance related to transfer-posting of Delhi officials. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee have played a big role in this attitude of Congress. Actually, earlier both the parties were taking different stand on this issue, but these two leaders played a big role in bringing both the parties on one platform. Firstly Nitish Kumar who decided to bring the opposition together ( together) and secondly Mamata Banerjee who raised the issue at a critical juncture.
The party was in a tizzy over this ordinance after strong opposition from other Delhi leaders including Congress leader Ajay Maken. On the other hand, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s party had made it clear that if the Congress did not support him regarding the Delhi Ordinance, he would not attend the opposition meeting. At the same time, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge had made it clear that his party is still considering the issue and will clarify its stand at the right time. But a few days before the commencement of the monsoon session, the Aam Aadmi Party indicated that it was waiting for a clear statement from the Congress.
Arvind Kejriwal kept silent
Sources now say that when Kharge called AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal to invite him for the opposition meeting in Bengaluru on July 17, which is being hosted by the Congress, Kejriwal did not respond. After this, Nitish Kumar and Mamta Banerjee explained to the Congress High Command that if they do not clarify their stand, then it will be difficult to get the support of the Aam Aadmi Party.
If there is no support from Delhi-Punjab then…
Immediately after this, Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee explained to the Congress leadership that unless they clear their stand, the Delhi-Punjab space in the opposition wall will remain vacant. After this the Congress had agreed, but at the last moment a hitch came. The arrest of a Congress leader in AAP-ruled Punjab by the Bhagwant Mann government in a corruption case further complicated matters.
In the second meeting, the Congress had decided not to support the ordinance.
The arrest of former Punjab minister OP Soni came in the midst of an anti-corruption drive launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. On Saturday, the Congress leadership met again and decided that they would not support the ordinance. But Jairam Ramesh, the communication in-charge of the party, did not give this information. Sources told that as soon as AAP also showed a tough stand, Mamta Banerjee immediately called Kharge again.
Now AAP has announced that it will attend the meeting in Bengaluru.
After this, the Congress party has cleared its stand against the Delhi ordinance on Sunday and has announced to register its protest. At the same time, after this announcement of Congress, AAP also announced that it will attend the meeting of opposition parties to be held in Bengaluru on July 17-18. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha told the media after an internal meeting of the party, ‘We welcome this announcement of the Congress party. Along with this, I would like to say that Aam Aadmi Party will participate in the meeting of opposition parties.
