Dhaka. Bangladesh has sought cooperation from India to solve the Rohingya crisis. Officials gave this information on Monday. A spokesperson for the Jatiya Sansad Secretariat said, ‘The Speaker told the Indian High Commissioner that Bangladesh provided shelter to a large number of Rohingyas, pointing out that India, too, had provided shelter to Bangladeshis during our 1971 liberation war and people Let’s remember that episode with respect.

Shireen Sharmin Chowdhary has sought India’s support for the peaceful repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar’s Rakhine state to their homeland. Rohingya refugees fled Myanmar’s Rakhine state to escape brutal persecution caused by a military crackdown in 2017.

More than a million Rohingya have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh since a military crackdown began in August 2017 to oust the predominantly Muslim ethnic group from their homeland in Rakhine state. They now live in huge makeshift refugee camps. Bangladesh and Myanmar have held talks on repatriating displaced Rohingya refugees to their homeland, but have failed to resolve the issue.
