New Delhi. Luna-25 (Luna-25′) of the Russian space agency Roscosmos had set out on the journey to the moon after Chandrayaan-3, but it first reached close to the moon and crashed. Scientists have believed that due to uncontrolled speed, Luna crashed on the moon. In such a situation, scientists are claiming that Chandrayaan-3’s route is safer than Luna-25, due to which the possibility of its soft landing is very high.
Experts OP Gupta and Balachandran of Delhi-based Nehru Planetarium told that Luna-25 went straight towards the Moon after being launched from the Earth, while Chandrayaan first revolved in the Earth’s orbit and then gradually shifted to the Moon’s orbit and It has been moving in the orbit of the moon for many days now. Experts believe that one out of three missions that take the direct route fails. On the other hand, the path adopted by Chandrayaan-3, the possibility of its failure is negligible.
Only 66 missions were successful
For information, let us tell you that in the last 7 decades, a total of 111 missions have been sent to the moon, out of which only 66 have been successful. Former ISRO chief G. Madhavan Nair has also said many times that the chances of success of the mission on the moon are 50-50.
However, ISRO Chairman S Somnath has expressed confidence that Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram Lander will be able to make a soft landing on the lunar surface on 23 August. He claimed that even if all its sensors and two engines do not work, the landing is certain. Vikram Lander is expected to successfully land on the Moon on 23 August.
Somnath had said earlier this month, “If everything fails, if all sensors fail, if nothing works, still it (Vikram) will land.” It is designed that way – provided the propulsion system works well.
Please tell that after the failure of Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3 was launched on 14 July. Chandrayaan-3 has been sent to demonstrate its capabilities to successfully land and walk on the lunar surface.
