New Delhi: Earthquake tremors have been felt from Rajasthan to Arunachal Pradesh. According to the National Center for Seismology, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Bikaner, Rajasthan. At the same time, earthquake tremors were also felt in Changlang of Arunachal Pradesh, whose intensity was measured at 3.5 on the Richter scale. Earthquake tremors were felt in Changlang at 1.45 am on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. After 30 minutes, tremors were felt in Bikaner. There is no news of loss of life or property at both the places. The epicenter of the earthquake was 516 km west of Bikaner.
In the last few months, earthquake tremors are being felt in different parts of the country including Uttarakhand, Himachal, Northeast states. Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR four days ago. The intensity of this earthquake was measured at 2.7 on the Richter scale. This earthquake occurred at 4:42 pm. Its center was Nangloi. Even a day before this, strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Delhi NCR. Its intensity was 6.8 on the Richter scale and the epicenter of the earthquake was in Faizabad, Afghanistan. The tremor was felt for about 30 to 40 seconds and people came out of their homes in fear.
The earthquake that occurred on the night of March 21 in Delhi NCR originated 187.6 km below the surface of the earth. Geologists say that the greater the depth of the earth’s epicenter, the more limited the range of vibrations and the lesser the depth, the greater the distance the tremors are felt. This is the reason why the earthquake that occurred on the night of March 21, 2023, was felt in Delhi-NCR as well as in Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu-Kashmir. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center said a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Chile’s Tarapacá region on Saturday. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 155 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.
The Western Himalayan region is considered to be one of the most dangerous seismic zones in the world. According to the scientists of the National Geophysical Research Institute, a powerful earthquake may occur in this region in the future, whose intensity can be between 7 to 8 on the Richter scale. However, he also said that the loss of life and property can be reduced by strengthening the structures. In the western Himalayan region, there is a continuous struggle between different tectonic plates under the earth. Due to this, a large amount of energy is being stored in the geological region here and this energy can cause massive earthquakes. Scientists say that the earth’s crust is made up of many plates. Indian plates are moving up to 5 cm every year.
