High Court expressed displeasure

A division bench of Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Rajesh Shankar, while hearing a PIL on disposal of biomedical waste in the state, expressed displeasure over the fact that despite the earlier order to the District Deputy Commissioners to file their report, this was not done. While fixing the next date of hearing as May 8, the bench directed all the Deputy Commissioners to file their report regarding the steps taken to manage the disposal of bio-waste materials in their jurisdiction.

PIL has been filed in the High Court

The PIL has been filed by an NGO called Jharkhand Human Rights Federation, which had highlighted the problem of disposal of bio-waste materials. The organisation had alleged in its petition that bio-waste and medical waste are not being disposed of properly, leading to severe pollution. This can also lead to spread of infections and diseases. The organisation had particularly highlighted the fact that hospitals located in the state capital, in the absence of proper bio-waste disposal mechanism, often dump waste materials in open areas or water bodies.

The PIL was filed for bio-waste management and disposal in the state capital Ranchi, but its scope was later extended to monitoring bio-waste management in the state.
