Earth’s Largest Observatory( Observatory)

Qinghai: China; There is a different world of telescope in the world. On the basis of usage, they are kept in two categories. One which are on the surface of the earth and the other are established in space. By the way, there are many types of telescopes of the earth, but these telescopes, usually known as large observatories,  ( Observatory) are established in a very large area and keep observing the signals coming from space from the earth itself, to get solid information in astronomy. Such telescopes have played a big role in doing this. Now this month China’s Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) is about to start work.

Largest telescope in the northern hemisphere
China’s Wide Field Survey Telescope will start work this month, which will be the largest telescope in the Northern Hemisphere. The WFST will have a prime focus camera with a 2.5 meter primary mirror which will be capable of a very wide field of view. According to China’s China Global Television Network, it is currently undergoing engineering tests and observations.

what is its specialty
The basic scientific objective of WFST is to explore and monitor celestial dynamical phenomena. Along with this, astronomical observation research will also be done through it within the scope of time. This will give researchers an opportunity to identify and study even faint signals coming from galaxy clusters and galaxies far away from our Milky Way Galaxy.

Construction was going on for four years
This telescope has been installed at the Lenghu Astronomical Observation Base in Qinghai Province, Northwest China. It was started in July 2019 by the University of Sciences and Technology of China and the Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO). PMO’s Qinghai station says that it is likely to start in mid-September.

advantage of altitude
This base has been built at an altitude of 4,000 meters so that the signals coming from space can be received by the telescope unaffected by the interference of the surrounding atmosphere. Due to this height, this observatory will get clear scenery, stable atmospheric conditions, dry climate and minimum artificial light pollution for space observation.

A total of 12 telescopes are planned
Due to its conditions, this observatory will be recognized as the best observation site in the continent of Eurasia. A total of 12 telescope projects are under construction in this observatory since 2017 and the Chinese government has made a huge investment of 2.7 billion yuan i.e. 370 US dollars in this. On completion, it will be the largest astronomical observatory in Asia.

what kind of observations
Through this observatory, the northern sky will be surveyed with the highest sensitivity of the changing universe, in which many time domain events, such as supernovae, tidal disruption events, multiple messenger events, etc. will be observed and studied. Through this, one million objects of the solar system will be observed in a special way and planets and moons will be discovered in the Kuiper belt and beyond.
Apart from this, a very accurate photometric and astrometric catalog of the Milky Way Galaxy and the objects of the universe around it will be created through the high sensitivity telescope of this observatory. The use of time domain survey technique in this observatory will also make it possible to observe small objects located far away, which cannot be captured by telescopes of normal technology or appear as very small and blurred objects.
