New Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed two charge sheets against a total of 68 leaders, workers and members of the Popular Front of India in two separate cases in Kochi (Kerala) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu). With these, the total number of charge sheets filed by the NIA against PFI cadres this month has gone up to four. The first such charge sheet was filed in Jaipur on 13 March and the second in Hyderabad on 16 March.
Chargesheets have been filed today in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. These two states where PFI is most active are related to different criminal conspiracies hatched by PFI through radicalization of influential Muslim youth and training them to create rift between people of different communities. Its objective was to handle arms and raise funds to carry out acts of terror and violence with the ultimate aim of establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047.
In addition to the above criminal conspiracy, the NIA, in its Kerala chargesheet, has also included a case related to the brutal murder of Palakkad resident Srinivasan, who was killed by armed PFI cadres (FIR No. 318/2022, Palakkad Town South Police Station) . The NIA probe had also shown some of the accused in the PFI criminal conspiracy case (September 2022) to be involved in Srinivasan’s murder.
In the two chargesheets filed, the accused have been charged under various sections of the IPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and the Arms Act, 1959.
16 accused were arrested
In the Kerala case registered in September 2022, a charge sheet has been filed in the Special Court for NIA Cases, Ernakulam, against PFI as an organization and 58 other accused persons. The NIA had arrested 16 accused after taking over the case in 2022, while the others had already been arrested by the Kerala Police.
The Kerala charge sheet has been filed after searches were conducted by the NIA at over 100 locations across the state. The NIA has also attached 17 properties as they were identified as ‘proceeds of terrorism’ and sealed 18 bank accounts of the accused during its probe.
Investigation in the case had revealed that the accused were hatching a conspiracy to create a rift between different communities and groups living in India, spreading violent extremism and the concept of Jihad in India, with the objective of dividing the country and creating a civil war by 2047. By establishing Islamic rule in India, it was to be taken under its control. To achieve these objectives, PFI had set up various wings and units like ‘Reporters Wing’, ‘Physical and Arms Training Wing’ and ‘Service Team’.
Investigation conducted by NIA has revealed that PFI was using its various premises, facilities and infrastructure for providing arms training to selected cadres in the guise of physical education, yoga training etc. He also set up a ‘Reporters Wing’ and ‘Service Team or Hit Team’. ‘ To eliminate their ‘goals’. Whenever required, the PFI deploys its loyal and highly trained cadres of its ‘Service Teams’, called ‘Dar-ul-Qaza’, to act as ‘executors’ of orders pronounced by its parallel courts.
Charge sheet against 10 accused in Chennai
In a separate case registered and investigated by NIA Branch Office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, NIA has also filed a charge sheet against 10 accused today. The case relates to the investigation of a criminal conspiracy hatched by the PFI and its leaders in September, 2022 to divide people on the basis of religious affiliation through radicalization and arms-training of influential Muslim youths to launch an armed struggle against the Government of India. was also registered for The goal of establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047.
Some of the prominent PFI leaders and office bearers in this case today include Abdul Sathar State General Secretary, Yahiya Koya Thangal State Executive Member (SEC) Member, Shihas MH Ernakulam Zonal Secretary, District Secretaries/President Sanudhen TS, Sadiq AP, CT Suleman, and PK Usman Kerala A charge sheet has been filed against the State General Secretary SDPI.
In the Tamil Nadu case, 10 accused have been named in the charge sheet filed before the special NIA court in Chennai, including Khalid Mohammed, the state vice-president of the PFI. This case was also registered in September 2022, when nine accused were arrested.
