Court reprimanded Imran for kneeling in front of terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was slammed during the High Court hearing in the case related to the terrorist attack on an army-run school in 2014. The court asked Imran why he was in talks with the perpetrators of the massacre of around 150 people. Most of the dead were students.

The court has given the government a month to fix the responsibility for the security failure in the horrific attack in which 147 people died when Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists attacked the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014. had taken Among the dead were 132 children. Imran Khan was summoned by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed. The bench also includes Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

This attack was investigated by a special commission. The report of the special commission was presented in the court last week. The commission had said that security failure was responsible for the attack. The bench questioned Imran Khan about the action taken in this regard. The court told Imran that it was necessary to satisfy the parents who lost their children in the attack on the school. The bench also slammed the government for negotiating with the TTP instead of taking any action against those responsible for the security failure. Justice Amin asked Imran, ‘If the government was going to sign the deed of defeat with the killers of these children, are we going to surrender once again?’

Chief Justice Ahmed told Imran, ‘You are in power. The government is also yours. What have you done? You brought the culprits to the negotiating table. Imran, in his reply, said that his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party was ruling in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at the time of the attack and it could only provide compensation which it did by providing financial assistance to the families of the victims. Angered by Imran Khan’s reply, Chief Justice Ahmed remarked that the Prime Minister was sprinkling salt on the wounds of the victims. ‘The parents are asking where was the security system (that day)? Despite our extensive orders, nothing was done.

After this, Imran Khan said that his government will take action against anyone if the court says so. “No one is a holy cow and action will be taken against any person in view of the court order,” he said. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told media persons after the hearing that the court had set a time limit of four weeks for those who had a moral responsibility to prevent the attack, but failed to do so. He said that the government will follow the instructions.
