Ankara. The death toll has risen to more than 19,000 as more bodies were retrieved from the rubble of collapsed houses in the region hit by a devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. After the big devastation, another equally powerful earthquake has been predicted to come in the country. Seismologist Dogan Perincek has warned that another magnitude 7 earthquake may soon hit western Turkey.
The expert said that the area around the port city of Canakkale experiences large-scale earthquakes approximately every 250 years. According to Perincek, the last one was 287 years ago, which means that the time has come. He told that he has been recording increased seismic activity records in Canakkale from the direction of Marmara Sea for the last ten days. His warning comes after a series of devastating earthquakes struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday.
Rescue teams in Turkey and Syria continue to search for people trapped under the rubble of houses damaged by the earthquake. Against all odds, search teams are pulling people out of the rubble more than 72 hours after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The World Health Organization said that many more dead are likely to be found in both the countries. According to WHO, the number of casualties could reach 20,000 by tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Indian Army and NDRF teams have taken the front in Turkey. The Indian Army has set up a field hospital in the earthquake affected areas, where the injured are being treated continuously. At the same time, three teams of NDRF are searching for people trapped among the debris in the earthquake affected areas.
