Assembly Elections: Voting is being held today to decide the electoral fate of 2,533 candidates on 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh. Voting is going to take place today on 70 seats for the second and final phase of elections in Chhattisgarh. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Madhya Pradesh Anupam Rajan said that voting will be held in all the assembly constituencies from 7 am to 6 pm. Due to Naxal impact, voting time will be from 7 am to 3 pm at 55 booths of Baihar, Lanji and Parswara in Balaghat district, Bichhia and Mandla seats of Mandla district and 40 polling stations in Dindori district. A total of 64,626 polling stations have been set up in the state. The CEO said that of these, 64,523 are main booths and 103 auxiliary centres, where the number of voters is more than 1,500. Rajan said that 5,60,58,521 voters including 2,87,82,261 men, 2,71,99,586 women and 1,292 people of third gender are eligible to exercise their franchise.

Important contest between Congress and BJP today in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh
In the second phase of assembly elections, voting is going to start for all 230 assembly seats of Madhya Pradesh and 70 seats of Chhattisgarh. The main electoral contest in both the states is between BJP and Congress. While BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh, Congress wants to retain power in Chhattisgarh. In both the states, the BJP has not projected anyone as its chief ministerial candidate and has relied heavily on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign. BJP has ruled Madhya Pradesh for almost 18 years out of the last 20 years. BJP ruled Chhattisgarh continuously between 2003 and 2018. This time again BJP is trying to replace the Congress government led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
Big stakes on many seats in Madhya Pradesh
In the fight for high stake seats in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is contesting from Budhni, former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar from Dimni, Prahlad Singh Patel from Narsinghpur, Faggan Singh Kulaste from Niwas and former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Kamal from Chhindwara. Big leaders like Nath are included. BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya is contesting from Indore-1. Three Lok Sabha MPs of the party – Rakesh Singh, Ganesh Singh and Reeti Pathak are also in the fray.
Tough competition in the second phase of Chhattisgarh elections
There will be tough competition in the second phase of Chhattisgarh elections. There is a possibility of a fierce contest between uncle and nephew, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Vijay Baghel on Patan assembly seat. Vijay is the BJP MP representing Durg Lok Sabha constituency. Patan is one of the assembly constituencies of Durg.
Mock poll starts at polling booths in MP, Chhattisgarh
Voting for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh assembly elections will start from 7 am today. Before voting, mock polls are being conducted in many polling booths of both the states.
