New Delhi. With the G-20 summit to be held in the national capital in the next few weeks, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has put its air warning system, Rafale (Rafale) and other fighter jets on high alert along with deploying new air defense missile systems at key locations. Defense sources said that air defense missiles as well as counter-drone systems are being deployed in the national capital by the Indian Air Force in coordination with all security agencies to counter any possible aerial threat. Airborne warning and control systems will be continuously in the sky to keep an eye on any movement in the northern parts of the country. Because of its deadly potential, Awak is also called ‘Aakash ki Nazar’.
Indigenous surveillance planes and eyes will also do regular surveillance in the area. Several airports around the National Capital Region, including areas under the responsibility of the Western Air Command and the South Western Air Command, will be ready in operational readiness platform mode. This deployment will be done in view of removing the possibility of any aerial platform trying to create obstruction in the high-profile meeting. Heads of state of many countries including America, Saudi Arabia, Japan, France and Germany are coming to this meeting. The Prime Ministers of Canada, Britain and Italy will also be present in the meeting.
The air defense systems activated and deployed by the Indian Air Force’s Ground Air Defense Missile Systems to protect the Delhi airspace include the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) air defense system, which Can hit the target from a distance of 70-80 kilometers. Along with this, the Akash air defense missile system has been taken to those areas from where it can counter any threat.
The Indian Army will also deploy its special forces to protect important places as this will be the first time in many years that a large number of global leaders will be present in the national capital. The Indian Air Force maintains such preparations during national day celebrations such as Republic Day and Independence Day, when the highest air defense protocols are in place over the national capital. The airports to be activated for the summit include Hindon airport near Delhi and several other airports including Ambala, Sirsa, Bathinda and Adampur.
